6.1 Update / Sprite Backup Problem
Hi guys,

I just updated my Tilt to Windows 6.1 via the ROM Version 3.57.502.2 WWE through the HTC website. After it was finished, I restored my backed up files on my storage card through Sprite Backup. It then restarted my device but now all it shows is a black screen with nothing on it. I resetted the device by taking out the battery and turning it back on and it goes through the AT&T welcome screen, the 3G screen, then turns blank again!

Any solutions?? please!

If I remember correctly, sprite backup is a great program because it backs up system files, that is, it is great when you want your phone to be exactly like it was before, but if you upgrade to a different version of software... I think that Sprite backup is overwriting some system files and therefore crashing the phone since there are 6.1 and 6.0 files mixed together. That's my reasoning.

mattlezeay is correct, Sprite is good for backups to the same ROM version - I've had zero luck with restoring to a different ROMs

WM 6.1/ Sprite BackUp "problem"
GEEWHiziTSPHil, Just what did you do to overcome the Sprite Backup problem? I am holding off on upgrading the ROM for two reasons: "let the dust settle" and I've got quite a few programs on my Tilt and really don't want to go thru the process of reloading them individually if I can avoid it.
Thanks

God, I've been biten at the bit to respond and help you folks. I went through all the loops to register so I can post here...OK

First...sprite backup...it does backup system files. The free version is trouble. Download premium and several problems are solved.

I upgraded ROM from 1.5 to 1.6 and learned a few lessons. After a successful upgrade I confidently began my restore to get all my programs and settings that I spent so much time to accomplish. Bam....all looked great, maybe a couple icons out of place but no big deal. Big surprise my ROM was reset to 1.5. All was a waste of time. What the hell happend? Sprite system file restore that's what! Fix?? Do not do a total restore. If you get a premium program you can choose what to restore. I have two very important programs..1) airline pilots aviation logbook (I'm an airline pilot) and 2) Cash organizer. You can choose specific databases to restore without restoring system files. I hope this helps. I've downloaded 6.1 today. I have a new tilt showing up tomorow. My plan...Get new phone out of box...turn on & let bloatware install...Then usb to my desktop, start 6.1 upgrade...as soon as the desktop shows...soft boot (THANKS KIP!!) Then I will do a fresh install of all my apps....Hope this helps some folks...Todd

Sorry a couple items I forgot to mention. HTC site explains none of this. They irresponsibly say to back up with active sync or sprite backup. Understand where that can take you? Second, a post here lost "all" data and wound up with a blank screen. Obviously going from 6.0 to 6.1 can be disastorous if you mix sys files. Rom 1.5 to 1.6 was not qutie as critical since it reverted to old rom. Again hope I helped and saved you some time...Todd

to use Sprite to backup accross different ROM's you have to prepare by getting a file from Sprite first. I don't know if it will even work with 6.1 since it never was meant for the x51 and I haven't tried it yet. I did do this accross a few of the dell upgrades successfully as long as you follow directions. If you jsut do a restore then it will over write some of the system files and you will have to do a hard reset to get them back. No real damage but a pain in the axx to do that if you already loaded all of your programs. If iI have a few minutes this weekend I might try to crreat a backup file on the sprite site so that it will work across ROM's and see what happens. I think that what it does is make a little database of the system files and only replace those that don't match what we there for the new ROM or somthing.

I did the ROM update yesterday. No major problems. I used PIM backup to restore my contacts (I do not save them on the SIM). I did a Sprite backup, but after reading the posts here, I just re-installed my programs 1 at a time. I did however, have to go into reg edit to install Transformers for keyboard sliding. Now that the PTT button is customizable, adding VibraSwitch was easy.

I do have one issue. I have eWallet and Pocket Bible. I have to go into File Explorer to open them. How do I get them (their icons) on the programs screen?

Thanks in advance.

When you're in file explorer to open your program..tap & hold the file for a couple seconds. A menu will open with about 4 options one of them being "copy". 1) tap the copy 2) navigate to: my device/windows/menu setup/programs and tap & hold at an empty area on the screen..menu opens up...tap paste and wola!!
